Marilyn has been the permanent DJ for my monthly Black and POC queer comedy show in
Bed Stuy since January 2026, and I honestly could not ask for a better person to have on
the team.Marilyn has a great feel for the room and knows how to create the right atmosphere
without overpowering the event. The music has a great mix of 90s R&B, hip hop, house,
dance, and other throwbacks that keep the crowd feeling good while still allowing people to
talk, laugh, and enjoy the show.
Marilyn also understands the flow of the entire event. From the music before the show to
comedian entrances and exits, trivia, and intermission, Marilyn keeps everything moving
and makes the show feel cohesive.One of my favorite things about working with Marilyn is how easy the communication is. I
can give a little direction about the vibe I’m going for, and Marilyn knows how to make it
happen while still bringing their own style. Over time, Marilyn has gotten even more
familiar with the show, so I don’t have to constantly explain what I need. I trust Marilyn
completely.Marilyn is also incredibly reliable and professional. They arrive early, communicate well,
stay organized, and are always willing to step in when needed. When I needed help finding
a replacement DJ, Marilyn not only helped me find someone, but also made sure they
understood the setup so I didn’t have to take that on myself. That made a huge difference
for me as a producer,Marilyn also brings their own people and energy to the show. Their friends and colleagues
come out to support them, and that adds another layer of energy to the room.

We hired Marilyn to be the special guest DJ at the launch for my album “em dash” in
Providence, Rhode Island. They were traveling in from NYC; I know it’s not easy to be the
out-of-town artist, but Marilyn knew exactly what to play to get the crowd involved.
Piccolo is usually a listening room that has very sat-down energy, but our after-hours
booking aspired to be more. Marilyn brought a big-room feel to the small space with
effortless transitions; it ended up being an invitation to get lost on the dance floor. Not to
mention flawless selection and a very accommodating attitude, our event was a huge
success in no small part due to Marilyn.
