Why Should I choose Beat Train Productions for my event?

Great question! First and foremost, the most important thing for us is to create exceptional experiences for our clients. As DJ’s, we take great pride in our craft, in cultivating deep musical knowledge, in perpetually sharpening our mixing skills, and in our ability to deliver results. That said, equally important to our DJ skills (if not more important) is our ability to cultivate next level client experiences.

Integrity, professionalism, communication, and organization are values central to the company. Below are a few thoughts…

Integrity & Professionalism.

We understand that you’ve invested an immense amount of time, resources, and passion into your event. We consider it to be a great responsibility to be entrusted with one (or more) of the most important make-or-break aspects of the event. We take this responsibility very seriously and feel that it’s our duty and privilege to strive to deliver 5 star experience to our clients.

Communication and Organization.

We highly value understanding your unique needs. We encourage our clients to meet with their DJ 2-3 months beforehand to chat about music and event details (we’ll also have you complete a music survey). We are detail oriented individuals who collectively aspire to be meticulous in our thoroughness and responsiveness.

Desire To Help

Working in events, there are a lot of questions we’re asked frequently. We always do our best to answer anything we’re asked, but we thought we would put some of our most common event and wedding DJ questions in one place. We want you to have the best wedding or event with the best DJ in New York, Boston, or anywhere in the Northeast. So we thought we’d put together this DJ FAQ to help.

This isn’t meant to be a comprehensive “everything you should ask your DJ” list. If you have specific questions about your event, please reach out. We always love talking weddings and parties. But here are some of the more common wedding and event questions we receive.

Where are you located?

All of our DJ’s are based either in the Boston or NYC areas. (and one DJ in Philadelphia). We do events throughout Massachusetts, New England, and the NY, NJ, and Philadelphia areas, and some destination weddings as well.

Ari founded Beat Train Productions in Boston in 2006 and moved to Brooklyn NY in 2011. The Beat Train admin staff is split between NY and Boston.

Do you require a deposit, will our date still be available next week?

To make a long story short, if you contact us and then decide to proceed with booking us a few days (or weeks) (or hours) later—there’s probably a good chance the date will still be available, but it is also possible that someone else put down a deposit and that the date is no longer available.  Like virtually all other DJ and event services companies, bookings are taken on a first come first served basis.

Are you insured?

Yes, Beat Train Productions has full liability insurance. We are happy to provide documentation upon request.

What kind of equipment do you have?

We use high quality professional audio equipment, including QSC (or equivalent) powered speakers and subwoofers, Shure wireless microphone systems, and Technics Turntables (and/or Pioneer DJ gear). We always bring back up equipment (including back up speakers, mixers, microphones, and computer systems).

Additionally we offer a variety of lighting options-you can read more about our lighting services here.

What do you wear to booked events?

We dress professionally, in dark or neutral colored suits, ties, or dresses.

Are you able to emcee our event?

Absolutely. We are happy to make any announcements/introductions you like. Communication and organization are central to Beat Train, and we will plan on coordinating with you before hand to work out the details, to help ensure it all flows smoothly.

We are all articulate as emcees, and generally lean towards subtlety, speaking naturally, clearly, and with a casual and friendly tone. We typically try to avoid making ourselves the center of attention and our de facto game plan is to keep announcements to a minimum.

That said, let us know what you’re looking for, and we’re happy to accommodate! Some of our clients want no announcements at all (no problem!) and some prefer a more boisterous emcee, and some of our DJ’s would be happy to wear that hat for you if that’s what floats your boat!

Do you take requests?

Of course. When you hire us, we’ll gladly work with you prior to your event to establish what songs and genres, if any, you’d like to request and what songs and genres you’d like put on a “no-play list”.

What music genres do you play?

We aspire to be ultra-flexible and take pride in our versatility. Many of our DJ’s have specialties such as hip-hop, funk, latin, or house music, however we’re all in our element as “open format” DJ’s and maintain extensive catalogs spanning jazz and blues from the 1920’s to Top 40 hits of today.

We’re able to accommodate a wide range of genres from Motown classics to 80s new wave and indie dance cult classics to golden age hip hop to modern top 40, (etc etc etc). Whatever you like, we’re happy to accommodate!

By default, we do not play line dance songs (like the macarena, for instance). That said, if you would like to hear the macarena or other line dance, we’re happy to accommodate. If a random guest came up and requested it, we would not play it without your permission.

What if my DJ can't make the event due to sickness?

Integrity is another value that is central to Beat Train. We take great pride in offering certainty to our clients and cultivating the most reliable DJ’s in the business. This is not a job like most in which sick days are acceptable. We make every reasonable effort to avoid it happening. But if there was a severe emergency in which the DJ could not attend, we would take full responsibility to find a suitable replacement DJ.
