Nick visits Vegas For the Mobile Beat DJ Conference
Beat Train Productions DJ and administrative assistant Nick Ferrington recently returned from the 17th annual Mobile Beat DJ Conference in Las Vegas,NV! This yearly gathering of wedding, event, and club DJs features seminars, exhibitions, and demonstrations that help bring new ideas and technologies to DJ companies worldwide.
Here is a brief overview of how things went for Nick on his venture to Sin City:
Why did you decide to attend the conference?
“I think it’s extremely important for Beat Train Productions to constantly be on the look-out for ways to exceed our clients expectations. Mobile Beat provides resources and seminars from seasoned industry vets that offer invaluable insight on how to do just that, so it was a no brainer to make the trip. Plus, it’s in Vegas!”
What was the most interesting seminar you attended at MB17?
“I went to a presentation by long-time wedding DJ and coordinator Rex De Jaager, who recently wrote a book called “101 Ways To Screw Up Your Wedding Reception (Without Really Trying)”. He went through nearly every potential issue that could come up at a wedding reception and gave the audience some great suggestions on how to be prepared for such complications. Whether it was adding a few simple items to your gear case or bringing up a few details to a bride/groom that they may not think of in advance during a consultation, I walked away with some great ideas on how to make sure every wedding we DJ is disaster-proof.”

What about technology? Any cool new toys in the DJ industry?
“One thing I’m really excited about is a new video conferencing software called Bride Live. It is essentially an online version of Skype geared directly towards brides, grooms, and event planners. With features like interactive floor plans and web-based meetings that require no downloads, I think it’s going to be a great tool in the planning process here at Beat Train Productions…especially for those of our clients who are planning weddings or events from a location where they can’t meet with us face-to-face.”

What was the craziest thing you saw during the week in Vegas?
“I was really surprised how many DJs I met that are still doing events without turntables and are just making playlists on laptops….that and the bride and groom I saw walking down the strip with no shoes on at 8 in the morning were probably the craziest things I saw.”
